Milka to the rescue…?

Another volunteer visit to the old folks home last night. We usually stick to the same areas – the front lobby, the karaoke lounge, or the fourth floor but as soon as we walked through the doors, Milka yanked me quickly down the hall on the first floor and straight into a room that we had never been in before. (Most residents keep their doors open and unlocked)

An extremely visually challenged (if not blind) man was in front of the bathroom, on his knees, on the floor. His walker was a few steps away. I asked him if I could help him. He said he was trying to find the fridge because there were carrots in it that he wanted. I helped him to his walker, then across the room back to his recliner (chair), then fished the carrots from the fridge for him. Really not sure what the man would have done if not for Milka finding him.

Then I was entertained by karaoke while Milka received a 45 minute massage! Can’t imagine what a dog massage would have cost me in Yaletown!

This was a good night.
